March 31, 2020 Important School Update
I am confirming the news from the Minister of Education that our school will remain closed until at least May 4, 2020 as part of the provincial effort to stop the spread of the COVID-19.
We have been working with the school board on a plan so that learning can continue while students are at home. Information about the tldsb.ca/homelearning/ plan may be found on the TLDSB website. Information will continue to be added to this page so please check back regularly.
Starting next week we will be bring classes back online in a reduced format in alignment with ministry expectations. We want to be sure that our at home learning plan is as successful for your child as possible. If your child is not ready to start Virtual Learning Centre classes on Monday please contact me directly at email@example.com to discuss further options. As a reminder students will need a computer with a reliable internet connection.
I know this is a very stressful time for all members of our school community right now - our students, our staff, and their families. Your well-being must continue to be your first priority. Please reach out to myself if you have any questions or concerns.
I am thrilled to share that Nathan Stachow has been awarded a prestigious Schulich Leader Award to support his post-secondary studies. Nathan won $100 000.00 which is the maximum value awarded.
Nathan is pictured here receiving his award from York University representative,
"Launched in 2012, this $100 million program funds 50 undergraduate scholarships each year, across top Canadian universities.* Our most promising students can pursue their dreams and become the next global pioneers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
They are innovators. They are Schulich Leaders."

As a school principal, nothing is more rewarding than seeing the dedication and commitment of students being recognized. Congratulations to Nathan. I am sure your family is very proud of you.
Many thanks to Mrs. Kuypers for her support throughout the Schulich selection process.
The Ontario government stated that all publicly funded schools in Ontario are ordered to remain closed from March 14 through to April 5. This means that Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) schools including the Virtual Learning Centre (VLC) and Open School (OS) will be closed for two additional weeks following the March Break.
During this time there will be no new modules, online classes, or open office hours for students. If a student has a due date already set during this closure it will be extended until we return. Our office will be closed during this time and we will not be responding to emails.
The OSSLT scheduled for March 31st has also been cancelled as schools will be closed.
For all COVID-19 updates visit the board website tldsb.ca/covid19/.
We will be updating the VLC website and student guide as information becomes available.
The Ontario government has ordered that all publicly funded schools in Ontario remain closed from March 14 through to April 5. We are currently working with our school board to plan out how this will affect the Virtual Learning Centre and details will be posted on the website as they come available. Please do not contact the office for details as we will provide details on our website and student guide as they become available.
Happy March Break to all VLC students and families. We hope the weather is kind and you get to take a break from the computers!
The VLC Office will be closed from March 16th to 20th.
