Treaties Recognition Week
What is Treaties Recognition Week?
In the fall of 2016, the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR) dedicated the first week of November as Treaties Recognition Week. The goal of the week is to promote public education and awareness about treaties, land claim agreements and contemporary treaty relationships in Canada.
Who can get involved?
We invite everyone in the VLC community to join in the conversation and learn more about treaties and the treaty relationship. Students, families and staff are encouraged to learn more about the history of the Treaty in their area and the true intention of treaty agreements. We encourage everyone to find out what it means to work in Allyship and be an Ally.
Here is an interactive map (Links to an external site.) provided by the Government of Ontario. It is a great place to start your reading about treaties this week.
