The VLC is going to be sending out a survey to families tomorrow seeking feedback on our program. This survey is going to be conducted through a program called Thought Exchange which allows you to share thoughts and rate the thoughts shared by others. If you would like to prepare ahead of time for the Thought Exchange will be asking one question: “What should we consider in our planning for the future of the Virtual Learning Centre?”
Our yearbook committee is working hard on getting their publication ready for release by the end of the school year. If you would like your photo to be included in our yearbook please submit this by May 27th. For more details about our yearbook see “The Directory” course in Canvas.
Due to current restrictions as a result of the pandemic, our graduation will be virtual again this year. We will be providing graduating students with a registration link for their families to login in and join our graduation. The virtual ceremony will take place on June 29th at 1 pm. Further information will be sent to Graduates closer to the date.
This is a reminder to our graduating students that all requested documents must be submitted by June 15th to prevent delays in your diploma being processed. Students have been emailed if we are missing documents, so please check your VLC Gmail account. Grad Slideshow slides must be submitted by June 4th (please see the announcement in the “VLC Graduate/Post-Secondary” course for more details). Graduation packages will be sent out to all graduating students in July via Purolator. Please update your student notes if your address has changed.
2021-22 Registration Documentation
This is a reminder that applications for next year are not considered complete until we have received all requested documentation. You can log in to your Student Profile by visiting our website to see a complete list of documents required. If it states that a prerequisite is required and you have completed the course with us, you are currently in the course, or you are taking the prerequisite course next year you do not need to provide us with any further evidence. If you require the homeschool letter you can upload a copy of the home school letter of intent you have submitted to your home board. Once you have received the confirmation letter from your home board this must be uploaded to your student notes.
Community Involvement Hours
Students need to collect community involvement hours throughout their time in high school as a requirement for their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The purpose of mandatory Community Involvement is to encourage students to understand the various roles they can play in their community and to help them develop a greater sense of belonging within the community. Students are typically required to complete 40 hours by the time they graduate. For students graduating in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school year, this number has been reduced to 20 hours as a result of the pandemic. For more information on earning your community involvement hours please visit our website. To find volunteer opportunities in your community visit (https://www.sparkontario.ca/).
VLC will be offering (Careers) and CHV2O (Civics) for summer school this year. Registration is open until Thursday, June 3rd at 4 pm. Summer school will begin July 2nd and run to July 30th, 2021. More details can be found on our website.
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)
For students graduating in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school year, the OSSLT requirement for the OSSD has been waived. We are hoping that students wanting to write the test will have an opportunity next year but this will depend on school restrictions Once we have more information we will share it out with families.
Last date to submit work
This is just a reminder that the final deadline for ALL late and outstanding coursework is Monday, June 14th, 2021 at noon. If you have late or overdue work you should have requested an extension from your teachers. For grade 11 and 12 students, late submissions may be subject to late marks being deducted from your final grade.
Teachers will be sending out progress reports this week and again the week of May 31st to June 4 for any students who are at risk of not earning their credit. This report will be emailed to parents as well if students are under 18. These reports do not go to all students.
