September 30 will continue to be recognized as Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters is a day that honours the survivors of residential schools – and acknowledges those who did not.
Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. We encourage the VLC students to wear orange on this day, and any day, in acknowledgement of the loss of lives at residential schools and the continuing trauma for survivors and their families of the residential school experience. Wearing orange is one way to stand up and commit to the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report.
